Women Like Watching Men Cheat on their Wives

March is National Women’s HisHerstory Month, which is a great time for me to quickly let you all know about my Thursday night (I’ll tie it all together I promise).

My Thursday television line-up included Parks and Recreation, Mary Mary, and Scandal.

A few things stuck out to me while watching all this delightful programming. Each of these shows have a woman as the leading role which is great, ehhh I guess. In Parks and Rec. there have been 3 weddings (if I am counting correctly), and a host of successful relationships etc. This season of Mary Mary is focused on Tina’s husband cheating on her and last night we found out Erica’s husband might have cheated too (SPOILER ALERT!), and then there is Scandal where the whole show is rape, cheating, well you know – things that are scandalous.

As someone who is still very young and a terribly, hopeless romantic I want to get married – ONCE! I am a very loyal and committed individual who expects the same in return. Watching Mary Mary (which is a reality show) and seeing a woman BROKEN because of her husband’s infidelity makes me nervous and very sympathetic for her. Seconds later turning on Scandal to see the main character glorified for sleeping with a married man, really threw me off a bit. I know that terrible things make for great TV but what bothers me most are other women’s responses to what is depicted.

scandal4

I think about BET’s Being Mary Jane, I am not a recurring viewer but I have seen ENOUGH episodes (2 to be exact) to see that the show is centered around a woman who is sleeping with or who has slept with a married man. People love that show. Week after week I see tweets and fb stats where viewers are bashing the wives, and promoting the mistress and even the cheating husband. BET even has a promotion where they are telling people to embrace their inner Mary Jane. WHAT? What does that even mean?

scandal3

My favorite responses are when people tweet things like “he wouldnt have cheated if his wife wasnt such a bitch”, or “if only they could just be together”. And I wonder how many of the women who are saying these things are turning over to a man, who is faithful.Or how many of them are dumb enough to REALLY believe he wasn’t that “in LOVE” with his actual wife at one point in time.

scandal

From a far, these shows look like they have some powerful women in it; journalists, white house liasons, the first lady, etc. But the women are crying in every episode, chasing men down the street, accused of stealing sperm. I guess that is as strong as women get…idk, im just sharing my thoughts on a blog.

But I just can not seem to get over the responses to this behavior. I am going to continue to watch Scandal but I am #TEAMMELLIE, #teamcommitment, #TEAM “You can act stupid if you want to but yo ass betta pull it together because you stood at that alter and vowed to commit and I dont care what kind of “love” you got for that 2 dollar tramp; till death do us part means the only way we getting out of this is in a coffin”. Those are my teams, yes the last one is a bit long, but you get my point.

scandal2

I could go on for days and sorry for not being able to really delve as deep as I want to, but as I always say this is a BLOG not a BOOK!

I just want to ask, Whats up with women? Yall really think this is okay?

I dont know, just throwing it out there. End of Rant!

6 Reasons Kids Are the Best Workout Partners

As my regular readers already know, I have been eating better and working out as part of my (10 simple ways to better myself). I have discovered that of all the workout partners I have ever had, my 9 year old brother is the best yet.

Let me introduce you to Mekhi!

mekhiHis main objectives are:

  • Getting a 6-pack
  • Getting Waves
  • Getting Girls

(that is a direct quote by the way).

The last couple of days he has been working out with me and here are a few reasons why I prefer exercising with him:

1. MOTIVATION.  He has so much energy, so he keeps me motivated.

2. NO PRESSURE When I am too tired to continue and he is still going, I do not feel like I am lazy, I just say it is because he is so much younger than I am.

3. HEALTHY COMPETITION When he quits and I am still going, I feel like I am on top of the world, because having more stamina than a 9 year old makes you feel pretty good about yourself.

4. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT After one day of working out he said to me “you know what, you look like you have lost some weight, and I am not saying that to be nice; I do not want to be nice”. and that was the nicest thing I had heard all month!

5. CONSTANT REMINDER He is so excited to come workout everyday. He reminds me CONSTANTLY that it is time to exercise, so I never miss a day.

6. IT IS JUST SIMPLY A LOT MORE FUN!!!

Those are my 6!

Go find you a young relative or child of your own who wants to workout and I bet you will have a good time.

Make sure that they actually want to workout, if not they will just goof around and that will be annoying, trust me.

Good Luck

Dinosaur BBQ #RestaurantReview .@dinosaurBQ

I do not eat out much since I had the baby, when I do go out I don’t like wasting my time or my money on yucky food or terrible service, so to help the other moms around the world who want a guaranteed good meal, I am going to do some reviews of places I eat. This review includes TASTE, PIX, and PRICES.

SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA

Me and my friend Jack-Attack (aka Jackie) were trying to find a place where we could meet up for lunch and catch up, because we have not hung  out since Ive had the baby.

She suggested Dinosaur BBQ. They have 8 locations (7 in NY -Harlem, Syracuse, Rochester, Stamford, Troy, Brooklyn, and Buffalo. 1 in NJ- Newark).

I had heard of the place and had food brought home for me from there but never had the full dining experience…so we went. We ate at the Newark, NJ location; located at 224 Market st.

First thing I want to say: Awesome Music!

The decor was pleasing, the hostess was so nice, and it was a respectfully laid back feel; so you can talk freely at your own volume, but not like sports bar yelling.

DRINKS – I ordered a Dino-Palmer [aprox $7]  (the restaurants variation of an Arnold Palmer) and Jack ordered a Corona [$?].

Although I could see the ice in my glass, my drink was WARM! I like my liquor to be slightly chilled so that was a little upsetting, but it was yummy none the less.

Jackie’s beer was flat! I do not drink beer so I am not sure how much of a sin that is.

On to the most important part…THE FOOD!

dino

We started with a Swag Sampler Plate for 2. Which was about $12.00

It included 2 Fried green tomatoes, 3 shrimp, 2 chicken wings (we had mild sauce), 2 deviled eggs, and 3 sauces (cocktail, ranch, and blue cheese).

dino2

The fried green tomatoes were SO DELICIOUS! It was my first time ever having and now that I know how yummy they can be I will try making them myself at home. They were topped with Parmesan cheese.. SO GOOD!!!

The deviled eggs were too salty, the wings were yummy, and the shrimp was good too. Although 3 shrimp came on the plate and the waiter took the plate away before we could eat the 3rd one.

What we Ordered!

Jackie ordered the Cuban (pulled pork, ham and swiss, with pickles & mustard), from the Pork Bbq section of the menu (specialty sandwiches) w/ a side of mac and cheese. (aprox $11).

dino3

She says it was absolutely delicious. The mac and cheese comes topped with a spicy red powder, I do not want to say it is Chili powder because I am not certain.

I had the BBS (BBQ brisket topped with hickory smoked bacon and melted swiss; $10) (sorry there is no image). It was such a nice combination of flavors. I am a lover of swiss cheese and red meat, so I was not surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

My fav parts were actually THE BREAD and THE PICKLES. The bread was soft in the center with a crunchy exterior and the pickles were so fresh. They did not taste like they were soaking in vinegar for ever which is nice, I wonder if they make the pickles on site, hmmm?

It was the perfect quick lunch date totaling about $48.oo. The receipt had this “suggested tip” section at the bottom which we found to be cool. There are definitely cheaper eats around town, but the taste and experience was SO GOOD!

is there food on my face?

Dinosaur is good with me. I will be sure to go back, but next time to a NY location just to mix things up.

Eating Animals vs. Smoking Cigarettes

steak

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I was OOTO (out of the office). But hopefully today’s post makes up for things.

Eating Animals vs. Smoking Cigarettes

Which is worse for you? Which is harder to quit?

The other day my boyfriend and I were discussing our son and his current diet. At 4 months he eats rice cereal (which I initially opposed) and vegetables; and of course he drinks water and breastmilk.

Soon enough it will be time to introduce MEAT!

Now for me that was no big deal, however Dad is a vegetarian, who has been trying to get me off of meat ever since we met. But I am a carnivore who LOVES A HEARTY STEAK.

I introduced a wager. Starting the month of March he will stop smoking and I will eat NO MEAT (however I will still have seafood). If either of us is caught sneaking, then all bets are off!

Luckily for me I have been trying to cut back my calorie intake and this bet will push me to monitor my eating (and hopefully lose a couple pounds too). As far as Dad is concerned I REALLY want him to kick that stinky habit and since lung cancer doesn’t scare him; maybe the thought of his son ingesting meat will be enough for him to put down the cigarettes.

Lets see who has more will power. (I think it is me). I am excited to learn and post meat-less and filling recipes, so that is something to look forward to, i guess!

My next Post will be a review of Dinosaur BBQ, so be sure to come back tomorrow.

OKAY.

I would be lying if I said there was nothing I wanted to change about my life right now. Life can really suck you into a whirlwind sometimes, and it is easier than you think to get caught up and lose little pieces of yourself along the way. As a new mom, and a stay at home, work from home, live from home mom at only 22; there are times I’m lost in my own routine.

I have decided to get my LIFE BACK!!! with a simple list of 10 easy changes that wont require too much of a fuss. I am posting this list on the blog so that I have NO CHOICE but to follow through.

Here are some promises I am making to myself from today on:

I Have Become an Opportunity ALCOHOLIC!

Hello my name is Ms. Get Right and I am an opportunity alcoholic…

drink2

I KNOW that alcoholism is NOTHING to joke about, so please do not take this offensively. BUT nursing has turned me into a drinking optimist.

Now that my little man is eating vegetables twice a day and drinking water, less time is spent living on the breast. Not to mention he is sleeping longer hours and through out the night. And as a mom who breast feeds exclusively (no formula) this means “PASS THE COUVOISIER”.

I know to drink responsibly, and I am still timing my consumption down to the minute; but oh god it feels so good to go out and have a drink or 2 or 3. When the opportunity presents itself I am ALL OVER IT!

Oddly enough I wasn’t a BIG drinker when I was in college but then again I am ONLY 22! As soon as I was of legal age to drink I was pregnant so it feels great to have a legal drink without having to worry about having my son becoming inebriated.

I will admit that going over a year with no sauce has ruined my tolerance level but that has made things a lot more fun for me. Especially when I can say, after a long day, I HAVE DESERVED THIS GLASS!

Toxic Nursery Rhymes

Seems a little dark of a topic to discuss only a day after Valentine’s Day…Oh well!

I love singing to my son. He loves singing back. But have you ever been jammin’ with your junior and really listened to the lyrics of some of the old classics?

*Please note the disturbed looks on the children’s faces as you scroll through.*

For starters:

1. “Its Raining its pouring, the old man is snoring, He bumped his head and went to bed and couldn’t wake up in the morning”

Is he dead? Does he have a concussion? Are there family, friends, or nearby neighbors that will be writing a second verse with a detailed update? Falling and not waking up…Dark!

s1

2. Ring Around the Rosie

Songs with ashes and falling down…DARK!

3. Rock – a bye – baby

“Rock a bye baby in the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock, when the bow breaks the cradle will fall, and down will come baby cradle and all”

Why is the baby in a tree? And if I know he will fall once the wind blows, am I telling him as a threat? Or am I gonna save him? …its weird, and DARK!

s2

4. Jack and Jill

Two young children venture up a hill for water, they both fall and die. Isn’t that just dandy.

5. Humpty Dumpty

I’m pretty sure he dies at the end of his own song.

s3

It is weird when you consider you are singing tragic songs to an upbeat melody, but we have been doing it and hearing them for so long. If you are singing any others and realize “hmmm this is a little scary” please share them!
